There is a man on the path making a jour…

   The spa

n of my hand measures a man on the path making a journey. A salamander, surrounded by well wishers and receiving congratulations in the parking lot says “You’ve got to please everybody.” The man crosses the pavement from one side to the other. The salamander gets in his car and drives away. The man doesn’t say a word. There is a Billy Collins poem which gives advice to writers: “Even if it takes you all night, scrub your studio, then go out in the world and look under every rock.” I paraphrase; research yourself! When I was a child I used to hunt for the red eft. See what followed me home today – it’s as big as I am. Two herons fishing; one looked like a flamingo cured of pink. This is The Heron Report for Friday, September 10, everyone.
