Drift Fences

What has happened to drift fences?  Have they vanished from our vernacular repertoire? Pavarotti sings Gesu Bambino (The Infant Jesus) on the radio at a 97.7 listener’s request and it is perfection to the ears.

I steer around a curve and can’t believe my eyes. Travelling by car over some back roads behind Sinking Spring and Wernersville, it occurs to me the art of erecting drift fences is not one that should have fallen by the wayside. A bus full of students. a private car, a work truck and a family car would all be safer with the application of vertical slatted fencing at strategic spots along the road to keep sweeping snow from patching up the roads, which have been so well prepared, cleared and salted for our benefit in this little winter storm.
