The August One


   Hands on clock point to 12 and three positions, which is either 3:00 p.m. or quarter past noon. The bell on the telephone rings four times and ceases. The chimes on the bell tower ring thrice. Time to get up. First day of August has  dawned on us, in U.S. We are among the blessed and damned. 

   No herons to report.  Yesterday a Mondrian-inspired message board entered the grid of known consumer goods – a brilliant idea from Kirkland that seems so obvious in retrospect.
